1.5 - Math Review
The Goal
review and discuss standard units of measurement and the mathematics utilized in physical mathematics
The Plan
This lesson will be split into 4 chunks, each with a quick lesson and then some practice
the 7 base SI units
Scientific notation (short video) (longer video with examples)
An Example
A good example of the combination of all of these is the speed of light:
299 792 458 m/s. This is a derived unit (meters per second).
It can also be written in km/s: 299 792.458 km/s. This has a unit prefix - kilo.
Written in scientific notation: 2.99792458 x 10⁸ m/s
But that's longer! You're right. Normally we would round a bit: 2.998 x 10⁸ m/s
Your Task
Log onto a computer
Go to Hapara and complete the "1.5 - Math Review" task
answer the questions in the document
submit it when you are finished (due by next class)
